This girl is dead now. This picture was taken a year ago, but Madeline died on Easter Sunday, this year. I only point out that it was Easter Sunday because her parents are under the grossly mistaken assumption that she still may be resurrected. Of course, these are the same parents who let her die. She didn't die from cancer, or a car accident, or any of the tragic ways that children's lives are unavoidably snuffed out too early. No, the autopsy report says that Madeline died from "diabetic ketoacidosis".
I call it MURDER. Her parents say that she died because they didn't have enough faith. They kept praying, and calling for more people to come and pray with them. They read the bible, and they prayed, and they kept praying. The one thing that they didn't do, the thing that would have saved her life, was call "911".
If you are Christian, this is why I oppose you. Your stupid holy book is chock full of examples of faith healing, not to mention resurrection. Resurrection's what the Easter season is all about, right? The ignorant shepherds putting this book together figured prayer was probably as good a solution to illness as any other. However, in the intervening millenia, medical science has come a long way. We don't even use leeches any more. Most times, doctors can figure out what's wrong with a patient and treat it. If they don't cure the ailment, at least they can lessen the pain involved.
Madeline's parents took your "good book" as truth. They prayed for their daughter to be healed, and she wasn't. YOUR god failed her, your book lied! In the meantime, Madeline suffered. Don't even try to rationalize that she was a sinner and therefore deserved to suffer, that's bullshit! She was only 11 years old, and she suffered for who knows how long? (Police estimate it was about 30 days).
This is what Sam Harris means when he says (speaking of "mainstream" Christians)
"The problem is that wherever one stands on this continuum, one inadvertently shelters those who are more fanatical than oneself from criticism. Ordinary fundamentalist Christians, by maintaining that the Bible is the perfect word of God, inadvertently support the Dominionists, men and women who, by the millions, are quietly working to turn our country into a totalitarian theocracy reminiscent of John Calvin's Geneva. Christian moderates, by their lingering attachment to the unique divinity of Jesus, protect the faith of fundamentalists from public scorn. Christian liberals 'who aren't sure what they believe but just love the experience of going to church occasionally' deny the moderates a proper collision with scientific rationality. And in this way centuries have come and gone without an honest word being spoken about God in our society."
In other words, Madeline's parents probably know the bible better than you, and probably believe in it more. They were willing to kill their daughter to prove how much they believe it. If you think they were right to do what they did, you're wrong and you're part of the problem. If you believe the Bible is true, then you are part of the problem. How many more children have to die before it's OK to criticize religious belief? If you want to wrestle snakes or be crucified to prove how religious you are, then you are a fucking retard. But don't do stuff like this to your kids.
The girl has three siblings, ranging in age from 13 to 16, the police chief said. "They are still in the home," he said. "There is no reason to remove them. There is no abuse or signs of abuse that we can see."
How's this for a reason to remove them: THEY JUST KILLED THEIR OTHER DAUGHTER!
