Another Anarchist tidbit

"Anarchism, more than any other social theory, values human life above things. All Anarchists agree with Tolstoy in this fundamental truth: if the production of any commodity necessitates the sacrifice of human life, society should do without that commodity, but it can not do without that life. That, however, nowise indicates that Anarchism teaches submission. How can it, when it knows that all suffering, all misery, all ills result from the evil of submission?
Has not some American ancestor said, many years ago, that resistance to tyranny is obedience to God? And he was not an Anarchist even. I would say that resistance to tyranny is man's highest ideal. So long as tyranny exists, in whatever form, man's deepest aspiration must resist it as inevitably as man must breathe."

  1. People like Emma Goldman and Helen Keller are so interesting. I'm hardly an anarchist, since I like roads and public school too much for that, but I like reading about anti-Americans all the same.

By the way, apropos of nothing in particular, I was all behind on reading your blog because we had a tough month-end for December and tonight I was catching up and I have to say, my dear internet stranger friend, you make me feel so much less alone about the things I said about the new President tonight. I heart you, Midwest buddy!

  2. So if I could show you a way to be both an anarchist and have roads & education, are you in?? :) Because that seems to be the big sticking point for most people, and it's a pretty common misconception about anarchism.

Do you have a bunch of year-end procedures as well? Anyway, thanks & I thought you had a great post on Obama... I wish more people were able to think critically about things. I wish I could say it was good old-fashioned Midwestern horse-sense, but I have met too many people here to which that does not apply (see http://fallofhate.blogspot.com/2009/01/omaha-conservatives-speak-out.html).
